Appendix B. Review of complex numbers

A complex number, Z, is comprised of a real part and an imaginary part, and Z can be written

 

Z=x+jy

We often visualize a complex number as a vector plotted in the “complex plane” characterized by real and imaginary axes.

Z= 2+j4

As a vector, we can represent it in both rectangular coordinates as in polar coordinates
