Finally Ready To Fit

Brokk Toggerson

We are finally ready to fit our data to determine the power p and the gravitational field g

Now, we have our \ln ( L ) data with the associated \sigma_{\ln ( L )}, and our \ln ( T / 2 \pi ) with their associated \sigma_{\ln(T/2\pi)}. The next step is to fit these data with a line to determine p and g. As before, we will be neglecting the uncertainty in the horizontal variable \sigma_{\ln ( L )} (though it appears on our graph!). We do, however, want to include the uncertainty \sigma_{\ln(T/2\pi)} in our fit. We will, therefore, want to do a weighted ordinary least squares – the instructions for which were in a previous lab.
