December 8, 2007: Ionesco, Rhinoceros

Royal Court Theatre

In repertory with Max Frisch’s The Arsonists, this is a much better play, a kind of tragic farce that describes human beings rapidly turning into ungovernable beasts, defied to the very end by the lone hold-out, Beringer. A parable for our time, and still relevant half a century after its first performance.
